We’ve been back at school for almost 3weeks now. Toby and Meg have been doing swimming lessons every day, while Hannah has been settling into a rhythm for high school. She commutes with me most mornings and catches the bus home in the afternoon.
After decreeing that 2017 was the year to get intentional about slowing down, I have been trying to leave work at a reasonable hour, and spend time on things I actually enjoy (like blogging). I am definitely looking forward to some slightly cooler weather that doesn’t sap our energy so much.
I love doing a taking stock every now and then. It’s a great way for me to remember the little things that are going on.
Making: crochet hexagons.
Cooking: not much in this hot weather. Though I do need to start getting organised to make passata.
Drinking: anything cold.
Reading: The Fence by Meridith Jaffe.
Wanting: an air conditioner.
Looking: bedraggled at the end of a hot day.
Deciding: on windows, doors, cladding, decking, flooring, kitchens, tiles, bathrooms, lighting… so many decisions with our renovation.
Wishing: that holidays didn’t have to end.
Enjoying: commuting to work with Hannah.
Waiting: for our windows to arrive.
Liking: Instagram stories. So many interesting people and things.
Wondering: what on earth is biting us. Every few days one of us is getting a mysterious bite, though none of us has actually seen what is biting!
Loving: our 2017 photo book which arrived last week. If you want to make your own photo book, check out this post where I give a big round-up of all the different options I’ve tried over the years. This year I went with Momento again, and as super happy with the quality.
Pondering: what’s next?
Listening: to book 10 of The Rangers Apprentice.
Considering: what to enter in the local agricultural show in a few weeks. The kids need to decide their entries this week as well. Toby is finally too big to do a collage of seeds and twigs.
Buying: a dishwasher and range hood.
Watching: Ballykissangel on DVD – remember that???
Hoping: for some cooler weather.
Marvelling: at some of the amazing sunsets we have been having lately
Cringing: at Trump. Constantly.
Needing: patience.
Questioning: whether we really needed 32 tomato plants!
Smelling: rain on the hot ground last night after a few stinking hot days.
Wearing: Boom Shankar skirts. Everywhere.
Noticing: how used to living next to our garden I have become, now that it’s not there.
Knowing: that the renovation will finish… eventually.
Thinking: about kitchen designs, bathroom tiles, built-in wardrobes and lots of other DIY stuff.
Admiring: Hannah. She has settled well into high school, is making friends, and enjoying swimming. Everything we hoped for.
Getting: a desk for Hannah to do her homework (something new for her!).
Bookmarking: articles for my students #teacherlyf .
Disliking: having to commute up and down to the farm all the time. It’s only a few km away, but it is so inconvenient!
Opening: the door to let the night breeze in.
Feeling: ready for a change.
Hearing: the kids play together in the background. I love that they enjoy each others company.
Embracing: the moment.
This weekend we are expecting some cooler weather so I’m hoping to get in the kitchen and get some preserving done. I’m also hoping to get a big post up with all the details of how our extension is going.
What have you been up to lately? Got any weekend plans?
