January around these parts always means fruit picking. Mulberries from the old tree, wild plums of every colour that grow along the creek, peaches off trees on the sides of the road, and now, even a few of our orchard trees have given us a little fruit. With my sister and brother in law visiting, we wait until the heat of the day starts to subside, before heading out to the trees and loading up bowls and buckets of delicious fruit. No shop bought fruit tastes half as delicious as the fruit we pick ourselves!
The kids always start out strong, but inevitably, get distracted and wander off to find another sheep skull, or an interesting rock, or just climb a tree. We focus for a bit longer, intent on getting our bowls full of as much fruit as possible. Once the bowls are full, I swing my camera off my back, where I keep it, and snap a few photos in the late evening light.
