We are back after a week of road tripping around the Victorian Goldfields. It’s one of those things we had been meaning to do with the kids, and about four weeks before the winter break, I said to CB that we should just go. Work however, was just too busy for me to even consider planning anything, so CB got on the internet, booked us some accommodation, and made a plan; drive down to Echuca, meander through Bendigo to Ballarat, and then hightail it home in one long (oh soooo long) trip home. Anytime I don’t have to make a decision, I’m happy to go along with the plan, so last Monday we loaded up the car and settled in for the long drive to Echuca.
The trip down actually went a lot better than I imagined. There was definitely some whinging, some putting our arms in other peoples “space”, but we got there with our sense of humour mostly in tact. I know I mention audio books often, but I swear that they are how we get through long trips.
Once we arrived in Victoria, we packed in the sight seeing with rides on a paddle steamer and a tram, several museums, some drives through the country side, a few parks and interesting shops, a look in the Bendigo cathedral, several artist studios, and a day at Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. We ate lunch each day in cafes which is a treat in itself for us, and interspersed the rest of the days with an odd treat here and there as well.
We all soaked up the experience. Time together making memories. No better way to spend a holiday.
Have you been on a family road trip?
