What a crazy start to the school term! Visits to the orthodontist (an hour and a half’s drive away), birthdays for Toby and Meg, a quick trip to the mountains for a friends 40th birthday (we met when we were in the same class in year 7 – that’s 28 years of friendship!), as well as the usual round of beginning of term meetings and routines to re-establish. I’m cutting myself some slack on the blogging front and waiting for my inspiration to slowly return. I do love to do a Taking Stock every now and then. When I read back over them, they remind me of some of the little things I am thinking and feeling at the time I write.
Making: a crochet blanket for Meg (still)
Cooking: Lemon cream cake!
Drinking: Hot Milo
Reading: Brooklyn – I didn’t realise that it was a movie when I downloaded the book to read. Now I want to see the movie.
Wanting: to see the sun – it has been raining for years (well it feels that way).
Looking: good, after I finally got to the hairdresser last week. I hadn’t been since January.
Deciding: on details for our extension.
Wishing: the extension was finished already.
Enjoying: a winter bonfire with my sister and her kids.
Waiting: for Spring.
Liking: our new ute (well new to us anyway!).
Wondering: whether to book swimming lessons for October or not??
Loving: our family road trip to Victoria. I’m putting more of them on the agenda now!
Pondering: the crazy weather we’ve had this year.
Listening: to podcasts on the way to and from work. Much better than the news.
Considering: shelving options for our walk in pantry.
Buying: new knee high boots to keep my toes and legs toasty warm.
Watching: All Creatures Great And Small on youtube and reliving my childhood. Did you watch it in the 1980’s?
Hoping: that people are still buying brand name milk products, now that the initial hype has died down. The farmers still need our support.
Marveling: at how high the creeks are. One friend couldn’t get home on Friday night because the rain.
Cringing: at Trump. Also marveling in disbelief.
Needing: a longer break. Time to get the long service leave out sometime soon.
Questioning: the new HSC proposals here in NSW. I don’t know any teachers who think they are good for our kids!
Smelling: wet ground, and wet wood burning in the fire.
Wearing: scarfs, coats, and thermals.
Following: DIY and home improvement blogs.
Noticing: that the days are slowly starting to get longer. Very slowly.
Knowing: we are going to have to pack up and move out of the house soon.
Thinking: about how to make more time in my life for creative pursuits.
Admiring: people who do their job well.
Getting: some more audio books in the Rangers Apprentice Series. We are up to book 7 now, so I’ve ordered the next three.
Bookmarking: birthday cake ideas. Toby wanted a dragon cake, and I think I pulled it off, despite having a blackout for 3 hours on Friday afternoon, meaning that I decorated by torch light.
Opening: the fire to put wood in. Often.
Giggling: at Toby who told me that now that he is six he will have longer legs, and that people with longer legs have more fun. Ha!
Feeling: like the holidays were not long enough to regain my energy.
Helping: myself to a treat or two after the kids are in bed.
Hearing: lambs bleating on the hills.
Celebrating: Toby’s 6th Birthday, Meghann’s 9th Birthday, and 5 years of blogging – always lots to celebrate!
Forgetting: to buy batteries for Toby’s birthday present #parentingfail
Pretending: that I don’t need to set up the wireless printer and wifi cloud storage
Embracing: our (slightly) larger data allowance each month.
And that, my friends, is what we are up to in July!
