How To Store Lego Instruction Booklets

We are big fans of Lego here on the farm. Over the cold months, barely a week goes by without the kids getting it out to play with. We have a large collection, comprising of vintage stuff that Country Boy and I had when we were kids, together with a host of sets the kids…

How Our Three Children Share A Bedroom…. Successfully

Our three children share a bedroom. That’s right; all three in one room. I was reading somewhere on the interwebs (and I cannot think where now for the life of me – if you read it too, let me know please so I can link it) about a family who was just starting the whole…

6 Ways To Live The Country Life… Even If You’re Not In The Country!

A lot of people tell me that they would love to move to the country. The allure of the lifestyle is hard to deny, but the reality is that most people can’t just pick up their lives and move to a small village and start living the country life. But not living in the country…

8 Tips For Sorting Kids Clothing

Here on the farm the seasons are very distinct. We have short hot summers, and long cold winters. This means that we really have very little overlap between our summer and winter clothing. Add to this the distance we need to travel to get clothes for the kids, and it becomes easier to do a…

How To Store Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles

When our kids were little, they loved wooden jigsaw puzzles. They were great for developing their fine motor skills, as well as their ability to solve problems. One thing that annoyed my slight control freak/ organisation junkie heart (take your pick) was that there was no box to put the puzzles in so the pieces…

Seven Things You Should Get Rid Of (That You Won’t Miss)

So once again, I’m talking decluttering. Because I love it. I’m not a minimalist and never will be, but everything in my house needs to be either used and useful, or beautiful. So I made a list of things that you really don’t need to keep, so you won’t even miss once they are gone….

On Changing Little Habits

A few weeks back I wrote on my facebook page that I was planning to try to change a few of my bad habits this year. Not that I have many *ahem*. I’m talking little things that could be changed to make life easier. Evidently many people out there were with me because it generated…

Keeping It Simple | Create A Donations Box

Often when we are sorting something out, we don’t have anywhere to put the things we no longer want, so we leave them where they are and hope we remember to get rid of them later. Of course we don’t remember so the clutter remains. Today I’m sharing something that is very quick and easy…

At last the fruit in the orchard is ripening! It’s been a long time coming. Picking fruit on warm summer evenings is one of my favourite things. The whole tribe comes down with me and we talk about what is going on and what our plans are as we fill bowls (and tummies) with fresh fruit. Toby has just started high school, so we chatted about how he was settling in while the sun set.
A lovely, easy Christmas with family, good food, a A lovely, easy Christmas with family, good food, a few presents, an afternoon swim and dinner on the veranda as the sun set. Time to stop and be thankful for the many blessings of the year. I hope you had a lovely Christmas too!
We have been mulling over how to fix up the drivew We have been mulling over how to fix up the driveway and lead up to our house for a while. Currently it’s just a dumping ground for old bits of metal and a big pile of mulch, but C would like to create a turning area and put in a garden. First up though, there’s a huge old stump that needs to go. What better excuse is there to have a fire on Sunday afternoon? C and the kids jumped on the quad bike and trailer, and hauled back a big pile of sticks and logs to help the stump burn. Once the fire was going, marshmallows were found and roasted. No better way to spend time together.
Team work makes the dream work. We were asked rec Team work makes the dream work.
We were asked recently whether we “make” our kids work on the farm. The answer is of course not. Having said that, all three love to help out whenever they can. They all work hard because they want to; because they take pride in working hard and contributing in a meaningful way to our family life; because they love living on our farm and don’t remember life before we moved here. Whether it be planting trees or doing sheep work or feeding animals, they all want to be involved. As a parent, nothing is better than watching them grow in skill and confidence as they work along side you. We’re so glad that we get to spend time with our three, working together.
We’ve had an unexpected addition to the family ☘️🐑. She is a lot easier to look after than the other family members but she does try to escape her yard and head butt people. Poddy lambs are super cute but they tend to think they are a human. Clover the lamb is sure that Meg is her mum. Can’t think why… 🤔🤣
