Holiday Goals

Yay – it’s school holidays here… and not a minute too soon. My goodness it’s been a busy and tough couple of weeks with sickness continuing, as well as lots of other bits and pieces. Hannah has had to go up to Dubbo and to Sydney for representative school sport (super proud that anyone with my genetics has athletic ability – clearly from CB’s side of the family!), which has meant a couple of over night trips for CB while I stay home with the younger two, and go to work as well.

So our plans for the holidays include lots and lots of rest and relaxation for the kids, and a chance for me to focus on things other than work. I always like to set a few holiday goals to work towards over the holidays. It makes sure that I actually achieve a few things over and above getting up and dressed every day (which is also a goal!).

These holidays I’m going to do a sort out of the cake decorating and biscuit cutters, a quick cull under the bathroom vanity (just to make sure that stuff hasn’t snuck in there lately), a declutter of my desk (will only take half an hour) as well as ruthlessly go through my teaching resources – If I haven’t used it since moving to the farm, it is going! It is really hard to get rid of old teaching resources because of the time and effort that they represent, but time and technology has moved on, so it’s time to get rid of stuff that is taking up space.

I’m also going to take time to get ahead on the blog. All the sickness of the last few weeks, has reminded me that I need to get organised again (it’s an ongoing theme) so that I have plenty written in advance. I have tons of ideas to start writing about, and projects to do. Time is all I need.

Do you like to set holiday goals? Got anything exciting planned?

I really hope you get all of your goals ticked off and done over the holidays. Holidays seem to gobble up more of my time so I don’t have any set goals to achieve at the moment other than get from day A to B.

I’m having a different sort of time of it due to a new job. It feels very odd to be working from home but sending the kids away each day. In the past I’ve managed to work ‘around’ the kidlets, usually spending the day with them and working into the night. I can do a little of that now, but it is just not the same. I think a little bit of me is in mourning. I will adjust. Enjoy your hols!! x

    Beautiful photos!

I hope your little family are all on the mend soon. I’m sure this spring weather will do them some good.

I am restlessly waiting for school holidays! I too will be culling lots of things. Baby things. I think our baby days are done and I’m ready to part with some things. Not the tiny baby things…..but some. 😉

    xx

Baby things do take up a lot of space. I loved the day I finally got rid of the baby gear.

Good luck with your holiday plans! I’m mostly planning to try and sort out my study and sewing area and to finish unpacking after our move. We still have stuff sitting in places where it was left on moving day and it’s starting to get to me.

Hopefully there’ll be some time to enjoy the nice weather, too… should we have any.

Hi Jo, I gave up full time teaching two years ago. We moved interstate and this led to a serious cull of those resources gathered over thirty years. I now do substitute teaching and my resources have been culled further to reflect more of my teaching needs. The cull is hard but the end results are quite liberating. Have a restful and well deserved holiday.

Some of my resources still contain overhead transparencies – I don’t even have an oh projector any more… It just seems sad to get rid of all my hard work!

I’m going to have to get rid of all my teaching resources at the end of the year when I move. I know exactly what you mean about all the time and effort. I’ve been in the same school for ten years so you can imagine how much I’ve accumulated. Oh well, guess I’ll just buy a lot of USB sticks! Have a great holiday 🙂

When we moved down here I had been at the same school for 12 years too. I got a large USB and brought most of the important docs with me on that!

Team work makes the dream work. We were asked rec Team work makes the dream work.
We were asked recently whether we “make” our kids work on the farm. The answer is “of course not”. Having said that, all three love to help out whenever they can. They all work hard because they want to; because they take pride in working hard and contributing in a meaningful way to our family life; because they love living on our farm and don’t remember life before we moved here. Whether it be planting trees or doing sheep work or feeding animals, they all want to be involved. As a parent, nothing is better than watching them grow in skill and confidence as they work along side you. We’re so glad that we get to spend time with our three, working together.
We’ve had an unexpected addition to the family ☘️🐑. She is a lot easier to look after than the other family members but she does try to escape her yard and head butt people. Poddy lambs are super cute but they tend to think they are a human. Clover the lamb is sure that Meg is her mum. Can’t think why… 🤔🤣

We got through shearing without a hitch (thankfully 🙏) but we’ve had a run of the flu followed by Covid run through the family since then. The kids and I have tested positive (this is my second time getting it 🦠) though so far C has managed to avoid it. There has been a lot of lying on the couch feeling pretty ordinary. Han had to reschedule her driving test for a 4th time due to Covid, which is disappointing for her because she wants her freedom and for us because it would be so much more convenient if she could drive herself places. Just to add in to the mix, our hot water system has chosen now as a good time to die so we’re on cold showers until we’re all out of iso. This is not meant to be a whinging post but sometimes life just sucks a bit and it’s good to be real. Fortunately, the sight of the fire going with a stack of wood next to it cheers us up. Things will improve soon. Onwards we go…

We’ve been busy spending time with friends and family, harvesting the last of the summer produce, as well as a short escape to explore the big smoke. After the craziness of last term it was the break we all needed. It’s back to school for me tomorrow, and the kids are back on Wednesday. Shearing starts soon and so it’s all systems go over the next few weeks.
Covid has made some late changes to our weekend pl Covid has made some late changes to our weekend plans so we are embracing the unexpected and doing not much at home. Plenty of time for hanging out on the dam and enjoy the perfect weather.
