Taking Stock | July 2015

It’s been a while since I last did a Taking Stock, but I love to do it every now and then. It’s a great way to remind myself of all the little things that have been happening lately. So here it goes:

Making: a crochet ripple blanket (I’m pretty proud about this one).
Cooking: a crumbly lemon slice.
Drinking: hot Milo as always.
Reading: the Poldark series.
Wanting: some weather warm and dry enough to finish painting the tank.
Looking: at crochet patterns on pinterest.
Playing: minecraft, minecraft, and minecraft – well the kids are anyway.

Deciding: what to crochet next.
Wishing: that it was still holidays.
Enjoying: time spent in the mountains with my family over the holidays.
Waiting: for some warmer weather.
Liking: the warm fire to toast my feet in front of.
Wondering: why we still had a childproof lock on our craft cupboard – it’s gone now.
Loving: watching the three kids work together to draw up plans for their minecraft worlds. So much creativity and communication.
Pondering: what vegetables to grow this summer. Country Boy asked my opinion on decorative gourds the other day. I’ve never had an opinion on gourds before!

Considering: making cheese this weekend.
Buying: birthday presents for Meg and Toby.
Watching: the Star Wars trilogy with the kids (the original 3 of course) – they like it.
Marvelling: at how quickly piglets grow.
Needing: more sunlight.
Questioning: the wisdom of our government – particularly on the issues of green energy and asylum seekers. Where has our compassion gone?
Smelling: the first jonquils – my favourite flower.

IMG_4246
Wearing: scarves, beanies, and coats
Following: lots of interesting instagram accounts – I’m loving it there (here’s mine if you’re interested!)
Noticing: the cobwebs in the corners of the room. The wood heater creates so much dust
Knowing: that I am struggling to keep up with blogging – it happens every year at this time. The short, cold days meant that I don’t get much sunlight, and I don’t get to do much after work, both of which stifle the creativity a little.
Thinking: about where next in simple living – I still have lots of ideas to share.

IMG_4576
Admiring: the beautiful view of Sydney from Taronga Park zoo. We visited over the holidays and had a fantastic time
Sorting: our filing cabinet – I couldn’t believe how much junk there was in it – it’s gone now!
Getting: excited about Problogger in a few weeks time.
Bookmarking: birthday cake designs ahead of birthday week. Toby is still busy studying in the Womans Weekly birthday cake book. Meg has decided on a bracheosaurus. Note that she has gone right down the the species.
Opening: parcels from Bendigo Woolen Mills

Giggling: in the lunch room at work while reading this post by Mrs Woog
Feeling: proud of my blog redesign. I did it all myself, and I have learnt so much.
Snacking: on the choc mint slice that Meg loves to make.
Helping: to feed the sheep
Hearing: rain on the tin roof as I lie in bed.

You can Take Stock with Pip too

Do you have an opinion on gourds? What has been happening at your place?

Team work makes the dream work. We were asked rec Team work makes the dream work.
We were asked recently whether we “make” our kids work on the farm. The answer is “of course not”. Having said that, all three love to help out whenever they can. They all work hard because they want to; because they take pride in working hard and contributing in a meaningful way to our family life; because they love living on our farm and don’t remember life before we moved here. Whether it be planting trees or doing sheep work or feeding animals, they all want to be involved. As a parent, nothing is better than watching them grow in skill and confidence as they work along side you. We’re so glad that we get to spend time with our three, working together.
We’ve had an unexpected addition to the family ☘️🐑. She is a lot easier to look after than the other family members but she does try to escape her yard and head butt people. Poddy lambs are super cute but they tend to think they are a human. Clover the lamb is sure that Meg is her mum. Can’t think why… 🤔🤣

It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got through shearing without a hitch (thankfully 🙏) but we’ve had a run of the flu followed by Covid run through the family since then. The kids and I have tested positive (this is my second time getting it 🦠) though so far C has managed to avoid it. There has been a lot of lying on the couch feeling pretty ordinary. Han had to reschedule her driving test for a 4th time due to Covid, which is disappointing for her because she wants her freedom and for us because it would be so much more convenient if she could drive herself places. Just to add in to the mix, our hot water system has chosen now as a good time to die so we’re on cold showers until we’re all out of iso. This is not meant to be a whinging post but sometimes life just sucks a bit and it’s good to be real. Fortunately, the sight of the fire going with a stack of wood next to it cheers us up. Things will improve soon. Onwards we go…

We’ve been busy spending time with friends and family, harvesting the last of the summer produce, as well as a short escape to explore the big smoke. After the craziness of last term it was the break we all needed. It’s back to school for me tomorrow, and the kids are back on Wednesday. Shearing starts soon and so it’s all systems go over the next few weeks.
Covid has made some late changes to our weekend pl Covid has made some late changes to our weekend plans so we are embracing the unexpected and doing not much at home. Plenty of time for hanging out on the dam and enjoy the perfect weather.
