Well the seasons have turned. May is suddenly cold, and the nights are closing in. I know that there are several long months of cold weather coming, but as each year passes, I’m slowly becoming more accustomed to it. May always begins with shearing for us here, but there have been lots of little things happening too:
Making : A crochet ripple blanket
Cooking : Pizza pockets for the girls to take to school
Drinking : Milo, alway hot milo in this cold weather
Reading: Anne of Green Gables (again), Secret Keeping For Beginners by Maggie Alderson
Wanting: A new black jumper, and some knee high flat boots.
Looking: Forward to the holidays (still 4 weeks away!)
Playing: Minecraft – well the kids and Country Boy are.
Deciding: to sell our house in the mountains (update – it’s sold)
Wishing: I had more time to spend on my camera – it hasn’t been out much lately.
Enjoying: The warmth of the fire – it is going day and night around here now.
Waiting: for builders (still)
Liking: A weekend spent in the mountains with family…. if only it were closer!
Wondering: if one of my kids will ever learn to blow their nose properly. The sniffing drives me BONKERS!!
Loving: the clear late afternoon light.
Pondering: the correct order to show the kids the Star Wars movie. I’m thinking start with the original series in order… surely someone must have an opinion on this!
Considering: Not showing them The Phantom Menace at all – from memory, it was terrible!
Buying: A cheese making kit – can’t wait
Watching: Poldark – have you read the books? I did years ago.
Hoping: for lots of lambs when lambing starts shortly!
Marveling: at how quickly the season has changed.
Needing: more rain.
Smelling: Freshly shorn wool in the shearing shed.
Wearing: Thermals, and a new skirt I picked up in the mountains a few weeks back.
Noticing: There are lots of random odds and ends around the farm… like this old bottle which is inexplicably sitting in the shed where we park our car.
Knowing: We have a lot of pumpkins sitting on our back veranda, waiting to be eaten. Pumpkin soup is on the menu!
Thinking: about what to crochet next – I’m thinking either a beanie or these slippers.
Sorting: the kids books out – there are a lot that the girls no longer read, which I don’t think Toby will be interested in (hello rainbow fairies and magic ballerina).
Getting: busy preparing half yearly reports for my students.
Bookmarking: All kinds of sites to help me with CSS (coding) for this blog redesign etc – it’s coming soon!
Disliking: The dust that the fire is making – I could dust twice a day.
Opening: A parcel of wool from Bendigo Woolen Mills… project time!
Giggling: At my sheep wrangling abilities (or lack there of!)
Snacking: on apples, and lemonade scones with butter and home made plum jam, made with last summer’s plums!
Hearing: mice scampering inside for a few days after we got back from the mountains. Hopefully Country Boy has caught them all now.
I’m taking stock with Pip
What has May looked like for you?
