A simple tip from the farm kitchen for this Friday morning. We bulk buy our plain flour here on the farm, and then make our own self raising flour when we need it. We do this because it saves space, but it is also a great tip to know if you have just run out of self raising flour and cannot be bothered to go to the shops.
Here it is:
For every cup (250ml) of plain flour add 2 teaspoons (10ml) of baking powder.
Make sure it is baking powder and not bicarbonate of soda – which is sometimes called baking soda. If you want it really well mixed together you can sift the flour and baking powder several times, but if you are like me, you can just put them together in a bowl and give it a quick mix.
Works every time.

Thanks Anne! 🙂
Hi Jo. This is a great post. So many people, especially my followers in the States, don't know what SR flour is. I'm featuring this one in my round up at tomorrow's Thriving on Thursdays. Always great to have you visit.

Thanks Jo. I am wondering no more!
I find it works well 🙂
Hi, are 2 teaspoons of baking powder not too much for just one cup of flour?
