Even though Spring is now well upon us, we are still in for some cold weather around these parts. Perfect for getting out one of these beautiful warm desserts, and spending one last evening in front of the fire. Is there anything better?
Pumpkin Cinnamon Scrolls
Fig and Chocolate Pudding with Caramel Sauce
Creamed Rice
Rhubarb Strawberry Crunch
What’s your favourite warming dessert?
You got me with creamed rice, my favourite. I resort to the vanilla bean rice pudding in the cold section of the supermarket, next to the yogurt, I know I hang my head in shame x
I do like a self saucing pudding for those wintery nights, I make a chocolate one or lemon. I've pinned a couple of these. Spring is still shaking off winter here too. It's trying hard to warm up 🙂
I think I would go with the custard too! Thanks so much for the recipe – will definitely be trying it out!
Jo, here's the recipe for golden syrup pudding. Feel free to pass it on. It has been handed down in my family. I make it in a battered steamer with dents and dings, shaped a bit like a ring tin cake pan but deeper. it is date stamped 1911 and I think the recipe predates it. The ring tin shape cooks pudding in less than an hour. A more usual shape will take longer.
My Moulinex scales do both metric and imperial but there are loads of conversion sites on web.
Slowly heat 1/2 cup milk and melt 2 ounces of butter in pan. Allow to cool slightly.
Stir into milk/butter mix at least two tablespoons of golden syrup. I use four or five and get requests for more.
Break two eggs into mix and stir till blended.
Gently stir through 2 cups SR flour. This makes a batter like mix.
Grease steamer really well and place batter in steamer. Seal well, perhaps putting some baking paper over batter to help seal.
Place steamer in large saucepan of gently boiling water and simmer for about an hour and a quarter. Turn onto plate to serve. Wonderful on a cold wet night and the house smell great from the syrup.
Tradition in family says to serve with very cold milk. My adult sons like it like this but they also put milk on apple pie. Daughters in law were not "brought up proper" and they prefer custard.
Anything leftover can be reheated in microwave the next day, although my grandmother used to cook leftover slices in butter.
Yum! Love a golden syrup pudding too!
golden syrup steamed pudding. Too large for only one or two but it's a family favourite. Sons like it with as much golden syrup I can get into it and they eat it with cold milk, never custard. Great for cold nights or cold wet nights.
