We have friends staying with us on the farm at the moment. Friends I have known since I started high school many years ago. It’s a great opportunity to bombard our kids with stories of what we did when we were young.
Whenever we have guests during the winter, we love to light a bonfire. Country Boy always has a few piles of old tree stumps and branches around the paddock, just waiting to be burnt. The kids toss sticks into the fire and toast marshmallows, while the adults sit back with a cheese platter (including some homemade plum paste) and watch the flames as the late afternoon turns into night.
It might be freezing cold, but we are all toasty warm with a bonfire going. It is one of the essential pleasures of winter on the farm.
Do you love bonfires?
Perhaps a glass of port inside to finish off the evening.
Winter picnics around a fire would have mum making pea and ham soup and sausage rolls. Great food for the weather. Ah, nostalgia.
Absolutely. I think we might light another one today 🙂
