OK. I know said I would post this several days ago, so lets just stick this post in the better late than never bag. The local agricultural show was a whole week ago and I haven’t updated you on our supreme triumphs* yet.
Show day turned out to be cold and rainy, but after the hot dry weather of the last few weeks, we didn’t care. We donned our boots and headed into town to see how we fared in the competition.
Like every year we had some wins, and some things which didn’t win.
Meg won first prize for her Lego creation, and then continued her reign as champion ‘Fairy garden in a saucer’ for the third year in a row. She also got third prize for her decorated biscuits.
Hannah came a very respectable second in the vegetable sculpture, and first in ‘an arrangement of flowers and foliage in an unusual container’ for some bits and pieces she stuck in an old gum boot – which I forgot to photograph. She also received a highly commended for her knitting, and entered the decorated packet cake section.
Country Boy won a huge array of prizes for his vegetables including best tomatoes, best medium to large zucchini, best onions, biggest onions(!), best spinach, as well as several seconds for his egg plants and an ‘unusual’ vegetable.
After the excitement of the pavilion, we took in the rest of the show. The girls watched a friend who was riding her horse, and Toby got to sit in a huge excavator. We finished off with lunch, eaten in the grandstand to avoid the pouring rain, and a quick stop to buy a show bag before we headed for home, and a quiet afternoon on the couch.
All in all, a good day for our little family.
*Supreme triumphs may be an overstatement.
