An Easy Christmas Wreath And I Extol My Love Of Aldi

Last weekend, after serving up about a million Devonshire Teas, Hannah and I ducked into Aldi for a quick look. I rarely get to Aldi any more, but I love their Christmas treats, and the way I can get out door furniture, a large screen tv, and the groceries all in the one shop. Add to the fact that there is always a bit of a lucky dip factor going on, and it is one of my favourite shops.

We wandered the aisle whilst I weighed up whether to buy an additional Bob the Builder DVD (yes), or whether we had a flotation vest for Toby (we do). We perked up when we saw our favourite Christmas biscuits were back in stock, and I impulse bought a set of 25 Christmas Cookie cutters. When I saw them I immediately thought of a craft I had seen on the Internet (probably Pinterest).

We headed home tired but happy with our little haul, and I started planning my Christmas crafts for the year.

So here is how to make a biscuit cutter wreath.
You will need:
About 25 cookie cutters (use more or less according the size you want your wreath)
Hot glue gun and sticks
Ribbon
Needle and thread
A container of red craft berries (I got them from a dollar shop)
Start by arranging the cutters in a rough wreath shape. It works best when all the cutter touch at least two or three other cutters. Take a photo of your layout if you can, that way you can refer to it when you forget what order they go in (trust me on this one!)

Get out the glue gun and get gluing. I drew a line of glue where ever there were joins to make. If you make a mistake it is relatively easy to crack the glue off once it has set hard.
Once the wreath is all glued together, cut the ribbon to the appropriate length. Thread the ribbon so that it goes around 2 cutters. I pinned the ribbon in place and then checked that the wreath hung straight before I sewed the ribbon together. Use the needle and thread to secure the ribbon, once you are happy with how it hangs.
Get the glue gun, and start sticking the craft berries into each cutter. Then you are all done!

Country Boy has been making smirking remarks about how ‘amaaaazing’ my craft is, and how it will ‘go viral’ on Pinterest. I’ve threatened to hot glue his mouth shut.

Got any other great ideas for simple Christmas Crafts? Do you have to put up with a husband who doesn’t understand your creative genius? Do you love Aldi as much as me?

I also picked up that set of cookie cutters, but I'm not sure I could bear to part with them for a wreath (awesome though it is). I wonder if I have any old cookie cutters I could use instead…

I got the from a dollar shop, but I'm sure that heaps of shops would have them at this time of year.

Are your favourite christmas biscuits from Aldi the Pfeffernüsse? Because that's what I hang out for every year at Xmas.

That looks great, Jo. My only problem is that the red berries look like jaffas, and so I want to eat them. You will really need a supply of Christmas cookies and jaffas wherever you hang it.
And to the questions, No (though I made some of the snowflakes you have on your pinboard), No, and, probably not quite, though the combination of products is amusing, and the European Christmas goodies are pretty exciting.

What I great wreath idea. I confess I am not a craft person so I have no craft ideas, simple or otherwise, I just shamelessly plagiarise the stuff I find on the interwebs. My mother who has had a go at every craft known and then some that I am sure she made up, possibly scarred me. However after making my Derby Day hat I am feeling quietly confident with my hot glue gun skills that I believe I would be able to produce something that resembles a sort of facsimile of yours. Although it won't be on pinterest anytime soon…..

A lovely, easy Christmas with family, good food, a A lovely, easy Christmas with family, good food, a few presents, an afternoon swim and dinner on the veranda as the sun set. Time to stop and be thankful for the many blessings of the year. I hope you had a lovely Christmas too!

Currently it’s just a dumping ground for old bits of metal and a big pile of mulch, but C would like to create a turning area and put in a garden. First up though, there’s a huge old stump that needs to go. What better excuse is there to have a fire on Sunday afternoon? C and the kids jumped on the quad bike and trailer, and hauled back a big pile of sticks and logs to help the stump burn. Once the fire was going, marshmallows were found and roasted. No better way to spend time together.

We were asked recently whether we “make” our kids work on the farm. The answer is of course not. Having said that, all three love to help out whenever they can. They all work hard because they want to; because they take pride in working hard and contributing in a meaningful way to our family life; because they love living on our farm and don’t remember life before we moved here. Whether it be planting trees or doing sheep work or feeding animals, they all want to be involved. As a parent, nothing is better than watching them grow in skill and confidence as they work along side you. We’re so glad that we get to spend time with our three, working together.
We’ve had an unexpected addition to the family ☘️🐑. She is a lot easier to look after than the other family members but she does try to escape her yard and head butt people. Poddy lambs are super cute but they tend to think they are a human. Clover the lamb is sure that Meg is her mum. Can’t think why… 🤔🤣

It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got through shearing without a hitch (thankfully 🙏) but we’ve had a run of the flu followed by Covid run through the family since then. The kids and I have tested positive (this is my second time getting it 🦠) though so far C has managed to avoid it. There has been a lot of lying on the couch feeling pretty ordinary. Han had to reschedule her driving test for a 4th time due to Covid, which is disappointing for her because she wants her freedom and for us because it would be so much more convenient if she could drive herself places. Just to add in to the mix, our hot water system has chosen now as a good time to die so we’re on cold showers until we’re all out of iso. This is not meant to be a whinging post but sometimes life just sucks a bit and it’s good to be real. Fortunately, the sight of the fire going with a stack of wood next to it cheers us up. Things will improve soon. Onwards we go…
