Domestic Joys

I would never have said that I was one to enjoy housework, or organisation. I appreciate an organised house, and am not fond of dust and grime, but I’m can’t say I have ever enjoyed the effort or process needed to achieve it.

Over the holidays I visited Ikea with my sister, and impulse bought a few cute crates to sort out under the vanity in the bathroom, and a new shower curtain (OK and a few other things too). When we got back, I cleaned out the vanity, and threw out all the old, random products that had some how migrated under there, and stood back to admire it. Then I had an epiphany.

It makes me happy when the house is organised (I know; it should be an ‘oh der’ but there you go).

Over the remainder of the holidays I sorted out the linen press and chucked out 2 bags of weird random bits of linen. I then stacked it beautifully. I tackled the sideboard, the toys, the change table, and under the spare beds. Every where I went I left a pile of stuff to get rid of. Baby gear to my sister in law; old blankets and clothing to the Salvos; kids clothing to my sister. Country Boy was worried that I was pregnant.

Since the holidays I have continued on my cleaning and sorting spree in my spare moments. On Sunday I tackled our bedroom. I got Country Boy to put up some hooks to hang my winter coats on, and consolidated everything.

The funny thing is, I find myself wanting to continue. I open up the linen press and smile because it makes me happy. It is a pleasure to go to the vanity rather than a hassle.  Who would have believed it? I’m turning into a wanna be domestic goddess!

Are you a domestic goddess? Got any tips? Or do you think I’ve gone crazy?

P.S My giveaway was drawn last Thursday. The winners were Anne from Domessblissity and Jobee. Jobee you haven’t left me any contact details. If you could contact me (via the contact me tab) before Thursday 7pm. Thanks!

I am a cleaning nut, I clean under every nook and cranny and drive my family mad. About every three months I dust the walls down with the duster that fits on the end of the enjo mop head. But hey I'm happy. xxx Rae

It's just a little bit addictive, isn't it!? When I find myself getting my ranty pants on a bit too much, I just look around me and see that it's because the housework has slipped. Messy house = messy me. I hate doing it, but I hate more the way not doing it makes me feel. x

I love how IKEA has a positive effect, it makes me feel less guilty about going there so often! 🙂

I love a clean and tidy house … I just don't like cleaning and tidying … I'm still looking for an answer to that conundrum. But I do love Ikea ;0)

I don't like the mindless tidying and cleaning day to day, week to week but I must admit I do love a good Spring clean. So much so that I do it every season!

I would love to be more like this! I am having a bit of an urge to declutter at the moment but rarely have a free moment to do it which is rather annoying. I think I would like to live a very minimalist life.

I love an organised cupboard. I have baskets inside my cupboards and each basket has a separate purpose especially under the vanity. Be careful it is addictive.

Oh, a well arranged cupboard is a thing of beauty. I just went through all my old makeup, nailpolishes etc and pretty well threw the entire lot out as it was old, dried and stinky. It's just lovely to know that anything I pull out now is fresh and ready to use. One thing I am OCD about is putting things IN canisters in the pantry. It drives me crazy to have empty containers and bags of food laying around. I've even managed to train the 16yo son to put things straight in as the shopping is unpacked. That would have to be my greatest organising achievement lol… ps, I love Ikea. Love love love ikea.

I don't like spring cleaning like that but when I do get to do it, I really appreciate how tidy / clean / clear everything is.
I generally go in fits and spurts with tidying / cleaning out cupboards – and after one or two declare I have done enough and don't touch another cupboard for a very long time !! We are thinking about buying acerage and I KNOW I am going to have to do a big clean out then so figure no point in doubling up and doing any now !!!!
    Have the best day !

I go through phases of organizing…….I'm in the NOT organizing phase at the moment. I think I'm bored with my house as it is now complete (renovated and styled). I think I need a new project!

A lovely, easy Christmas with family, good food, a A lovely, easy Christmas with family, good food, a few presents, an afternoon swim and dinner on the veranda as the sun set. Time to stop and be thankful for the many blessings of the year. I hope you had a lovely Christmas too!
We have been mulling over how to fix up the drivew We have been mulling over how to fix up the driveway and lead up to our house for a while. Currently it’s just a dumping ground for old bits of metal and a big pile of mulch, but C would like to create a turning area and put in a garden. First up though, there’s a huge old stump that needs to go. What better excuse is there to have a fire on Sunday afternoon? C and the kids jumped on the quad bike and trailer, and hauled back a big pile of sticks and logs to help the stump burn. Once the fire was going, marshmallows were found and roasted. No better way to spend time together.

We were asked recently whether we “make” our kids work on the farm. The answer is of course not. Having said that, all three love to help out whenever they can. They all work hard because they want to; because they take pride in working hard and contributing in a meaningful way to our family life; because they love living on our farm and don’t remember life before we moved here. Whether it be planting trees or doing sheep work or feeding animals, they all want to be involved. As a parent, nothing is better than watching them grow in skill and confidence as they work along side you. We’re so glad that we get to spend time with our three, working together.
We’ve had an unexpected addition to the family ☘️🐑. She is a lot easier to look after than the other family members but she does try to escape her yard and head butt people. Poddy lambs are super cute but they tend to think they are a human. Clover the lamb is sure that Meg is her mum. Can’t think why… 🤔🤣

It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got through shearing without a hitch (thankfully 🙏) but we’ve had a run of the flu followed by Covid run through the family since then. The kids and I have tested positive (this is my second time getting it 🦠) though so far C has managed to avoid it. There has been a lot of lying on the couch feeling pretty ordinary. Han had to reschedule her driving test for a 4th time due to Covid, which is disappointing for her because she wants her freedom and for us because it would be so much more convenient if she could drive herself places. Just to add in to the mix, our hot water system has chosen now as a good time to die so we’re on cold showers until we’re all out of iso. This is not meant to be a whinging post but sometimes life just sucks a bit and it’s good to be real. Fortunately, the sight of the fire going with a stack of wood next to it cheers us up. Things will improve soon. Onwards we go…
