Autumn is my favourite time of year here on the farm. Not so much the cold nights and mornings, but the warm middle of the day, the amazing colours on the trees, and the feeling of being alive when you are out in the crisp fresh air, and the beautiful autumn light.
It is also a busy time of year. The garden is finishing off it’s summer crop, and we need to collect the last of the harvest. Then it is time to pull out the finished plants, and start the winter crop. The carrots have been in for while now, and so have the broccoli.
The fire is on every night now (though to be honest Country Boy thinks we don’t need it), and the days are getting darker earlier. Our meals are becoming more hearty, with lots of pork, and vegetables, in just about any combination you can think of.
We have spent the spring and summer growing our food and storing it away. Now it is time to move into the next part of the yearly cycle: Winter. Brrrrrrr.
Beautiful photos Jo. Your blog always makes it seem like you have such a magical life. The thought of living on a farm really appeals to me, though I don't know if I could actually do it.
Thanks Jess. We are blessed to have a great life, but some of the hard things are just too personal to stick on a blog, or just too boring and mundane to write about. I try to look on the bright side (mostly).
Beautiful photos. Autumn really is lovely. I love gumboot weather!
