We arrived home from our long weekend in the mountains yesterday afternoon. On the way home we were talking about whether the sow would have had her babies yet – I was hoping she hadn’t because I wanted the kids to see her give birth.
When we got back to the farm we drove straight to the pig yard and had a peek inside…
Our sow was lying in the hay, panting, and breathing heavily in labour. She looked at me like this! Clearly she doesn’t love labour any more than I did.
Over the rest of the afternoon, another two piglets were born, making five altogether. It is amazing just how quickly the piglets get themselves up, and they head straight to their mothers teats and start sucking. Instinct is incredible!
What a wonderful way to learn about the birds and the bees! What an exciting time!
Welcome little ones! Great pics, Jo!
That is so awesome that your kids got to witness this. What a great learning experience for them.
Awwwww Jo. You've made two city slickers up here in Brisbane very happy sharing those photos. My kids love them.
