When I was a kid, I can remember playing in a sandpit out the back of my parents place. We would spend hours constructing towns and roads, and digging holes. It is one of the clearest memories of my childhood. It is also a memory I want my kids to have too.
There is so much scope for creative play in a sandpit, and we have been meaning to build one for a while now. Last weekend my parents came for a visit and it seemed like an ideal time to get it put together. Country Boy found some old fence posts to use as the edges, and then used weed mat as a base because it will stop the grass growing in it but still let the water drain through.
I arrived home from work on Monday afternoon in time to see the sand being put into the frame… with the help of a certain (very excited) little fellow.
No sooner had we finished filling it, than all three kids were in there busily digging and building.
The kids are excitedly looking forward to a visit from their cousins, so that they can all play together in the sandpit. I suspect that we will have to hose the kids off daily for the next couple of months… which is just what I was hoping for!
