+ The weather is distinctly autumnal. The nights are getting colder, and it is still cold when we get up in the morning. Country Boy and his father have spent several days getting wood in for the winter. We have a huge pile outside our back gate just waiting to be split. I love a warm fire, but I am not looking forward to all the dust that the fire makes.
+ With the cooler weather, we are well and truly into autumn harvest. We had run out of jars and bottles to put all our preserves in, but fortunately my parents put a call out and collected a few more boxes of jars. I cleared out a whole shelf of our linen press to make room for all the jars. We have enough pickles and jars or food for several years. If we want to start our own isolationist cult, we have enough food for several years.
+ The piglets are growing quickly. One died on Wednesday – we think because the sow sat on it accidentally (they do that often because they can’t see the piglets when they are underneath the sow). Toby was in the pen yesterday picking them up. Unsurprisingly the piglets squeal when picked up, but Toby in not at all phased by the noise. He is a little Country Boy!
+ This weekend I’m going to tackle the kids wardrobes and sort out all their winter clothes. It will be an ordeal. Hannah hates getting rid of everything, and becomes more stressed and upset with every old sock which I put in the Vinnies bag.
+ We also have the annual village Harvest Festival this weekend. Hopefully we can shift some of the pickles and produce.
Happy Friday Everyone!!
