+ The weather has been perfect this week. Beautiful warm days, and balmy evenings. We have had dinner on the front veranda every night. The best part (apart from being able to just sweep the scraps off the edge) is the view. Who wouldn’t enjoy dinner while looking at this?
+ Hannah was out the back by herself after dinner last night, and then came tearing around the house, calling out that there was a snake on the path. Country Boy grabbed a mattock, and went around to find a brown snake there. He gave it a whack and it was no more. Thank goodness CB was there, but I do worry about what would happen if Toby came across a snake by himself. CB bought the snake around to show the kids what it looked like, and to teach Toby what to look for. Hopefully we never need to test whether he learnt the lesson. Hannah did the right thing by backing away very slowly, and then coming to get us – she was a bit shaken up after it.
+ It is my birthday this weekend – we are planning to go to town without the kids and get the Christmas shopping completed. Hopefully we get it done fairly quickly (I have a list!) and then we plan to go to Poachers Pantry for a late lunch. It looks divine – one day I would love to try smoking our own meat, but in the mean time I am thinking their smoked chicken with cranberry stuffing looks amazing for Christmas dinner!
+I’ve been watching Jimmy And The Giant Supermarket on Thursday nights on SBS. Partly I’m interested in it because I teach Food Technology and it illustrates some of the issues in food production, but I also find it interesting how much food gets wasted just because it doesn’t fit a ‘specification’. I think we have become so obsessed with cheap, predictable food, that we don’t really think about what is in it, or how the animal has been treated. I have written before about some of the ethical dilemmas I have when buying food, but to be honest, there isn’t even an option for free range meat in our local town. I have to save that for our big shopping expeditions.
+ I have been sharing some my Christmas crafts that I made last weekend. I have to show you some of the other things my sister and I made (OK they are mostly my sisters – I did the Noel). I also have a Joy to paint up. Oooh getting excited about Christmas!!!
Happy Friday Everyone!!
