Friday: On My Mind

+ I have been working all year at a school an hour and 15 minutes away. The commute (over 100km each way) has been gruelling. Recently I was offered work at a school in the local town which starts in a few weeks. I have 4 weeks left at the first school. I am really looking forward to the short commute and the extra time that I will have to spend with my family, but I am also now working hard trying to get all my reports and paper work completed before I finish up.

+ My sister bought me Water For Elephants audio book over the holidays, and I am loving it! Once again I am sitting in the car once I get to work, just to get to the end of the next chapter. When I am spending less time commuting it is going to take me forever to get through the books, but it is a downside I am willing to put up with.

+ Toby is going through one of those phases where he is growing and changing before our eyes. He is suddenly speaking in full sentences, and running and jumping – off things! I looked at him yesterday afternoon and there wasn’t even a hint of babyness (so is a word!) in him. He is all boy, and all Country Boy too! What is lovely is that he can now join in with the girls games. It is beautiful to watch him running around with his sisters.

+ We are heading up to Orange field days on Wednesday next week. We are meeting up with my sister, and our kids are going to enjoy a day of looking at machinery and farm things.

+ I read this post by Lisa at Mummy’s Undeserved Blessings. Teaching my kids to share has always been a struggle. If I am honest, I don’t like to share my things either. I have been challenged to think about how I can model sharing to my children.

+ After a busy holiday, I am relieved that this weekend will be quiet. I’m planning on doing a little craft, some school work, and the usual housework. Hope you have a good weekend too

Happy Friday!

Re: the sharing idea I recall reading something a while back that basically said that, left to their own devices, children will often share without being forced. That is, while they may not share *everything* (and quite frankly, everyone has things that they are unwilling to share) on the whole they will share willingly. As such in our house if one of the kids says "no you can't play with that, it's mine" we'll let them get away with it, but remind them that the next time they ask to borrow something belonging to someone else they may not be able to. And that they need to be ok with that.

I love that photo, those eyes, gorgeous!
How wonderful it will be to not have to drive so far to work everyday, time spent getting to and from work is so wasted.
It's so bittersweet to see how fast they grow, but sibling love is divine to watch.
Thanks for a lovely read x

Audio books are such a great idea for a long commute, your's is especially long! Sounds like it will be really refreshing to work closer to home.

Team work makes the dream work. We were asked rec Team work makes the dream work.
We were asked recently whether we “make” our kids work on the farm. The answer is “of course not”. Having said that, all three love to help out whenever they can. They all work hard because they want to; because they take pride in working hard and contributing in a meaningful way to our family life; because they love living on our farm and don’t remember life before we moved here. Whether it be planting trees or doing sheep work or feeding animals, they all want to be involved. As a parent, nothing is better than watching them grow in skill and confidence as they work along side you. We’re so glad that we get to spend time with our three, working together.
We’ve had an unexpected addition to the family ☘️🐑. She is a lot easier to look after than the other family members but she does try to escape her yard and head butt people. Poddy lambs are super cute but they tend to think they are a human. Clover the lamb is sure that Meg is her mum. Can’t think why… 🤔🤣

It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got through shearing without a hitch (thankfully 🙏) but we’ve had a run of the flu followed by Covid run through the family since then. The kids and I have tested positive (this is my second time getting it 🦠) though so far C has managed to avoid it. There has been a lot of lying on the couch feeling pretty ordinary. Han had to reschedule her driving test for a 4th time due to Covid, which is disappointing for her because she wants her freedom and for us because it would be so much more convenient if she could drive herself places. Just to add in to the mix, our hot water system has chosen now as a good time to die so we’re on cold showers until we’re all out of iso. This is not meant to be a whinging post but sometimes life just sucks a bit and it’s good to be real. Fortunately, the sight of the fire going with a stack of wood next to it cheers us up. Things will improve soon. Onwards we go…
A picture perfect Autumn afternoon to end the scho A picture perfect Autumn afternoon to end the school holidays. We’ve been busy spending time with friends and family, harvesting the last of the summer produce, as well as a short escape to explore the big smoke. After the craziness of last term it was the break we all needed. It’s back to school for me tomorrow, and the kids are back on Wednesday. Shearing starts soon and so it’s all systems go over the next few weeks.
Covid has made some late changes to our weekend pl Covid has made some late changes to our weekend plans so we are embracing the unexpected and doing not much at home. Plenty of time for hanging out on the dam and enjoy the perfect weather.
