It has become an annual ritual, and it really is the first thing that reminds us that Christmas is coming. On Saturday I finally got my act together and packed the boxes with the girls.
I try to buy things throughout the year when I see them on sale. I often buy end of season clothing when they are only a couple of dollars. Then when September rolls around, I duck into my local dollar shop for the last few bits and pieces. I try to get the kids input when choosing what to put in the box. It is important for them to learn to think about others.
This year we packed two boxes; one for a girl and one for a boy, both aged 5-8.
Into one box (for the girls) we packed:
– tshirt and shorts
– hair brush, clips, head bands, and elastics
– necklace
– toy pony
– tennis ball
– toothbrush, soap and facewasher
– pencil case with pens, pencils and sharpener
– coloured paper pad
– sticker pad
– tennis ball
– novelty bands
– drawstring bag
– purse
– stuffed hippo
In the box for the boy we put:
– tshirt and shorts
– tennis ball
– toothbrush, soap and facewasher
– pencil case with pens, pencils and sharpener
– coloured paper pad
– sticker pad
– tennis ball
– marbles in drawstring bag
– wind up torch
– juggling balls
– matchbox car
I’ve put a clip below which shows just how Operation Christmas Child works. Click on the link if you are interested in finding out more!
I’d love to hear what charities other people support in the lead up to Christmas!
*I’m not affiliated with Operation Christmas Child in anyway. It is just a charity we choose to support.
what a great idea thanks for sharing …looking it up now <3 ~louise
I love this idea. Our school this year organised to do them. Thanks for joining the blog hop x
We do these too! It's such a great project- and such a nice thing to be able to do 🙂
I do this every year too. I just got my boxes on Sunday. Where did you get a wind up torch? what a great idea.An older lady from our church told me she does 100 of them.
Wow 100 is amazing! I got the wind up torch from aldi – they have them several times a year and I always stock up on them when I see them just for the boxes!
OMG small world. Only found out about this in the last month and am gathering soap and pen supplies. Great post to bring knowledge to those that don't know about this.
