A Morning At The River

Some of our favourite people came to visit us over the holidays. It’s so good to have cousins (and a sister) who are friends as well. Their visit was full of outdoor fun, soaking up the best that the farm has to offer at this time of they year. Motorbikes were ridden, cubbies were built, serious discussions about minecraft were had, sticks were collected, rocks were thrown into the creek. Fun things are made even more fun, when you share them with loved ones.

At this time of year we like to walk to the river near by, for a paddle and a picnic morning tea. Of course at least one child will fall in completely (Toby this time), and no matter how much food we bring, it is never enough. A bike ride to the edge of our property, followed by a short walk really is the perfect way to spend a morning!

What did you get up to these holidays?

There’s just something about a river, isn’t there? The beach is a wonderful thing, but a river is so calming. There’s a quaintness about playing by the riverside that I just love. x

Oh my goodness photos like that are such delight. It’s always the simple pleasures that are most enjoyed. Nothing better than friends / family.
I actually escaped the school holidays and was treated to an all girl getaway with my old school friends. I’ve got some making up to do on the family front. But I think it was actually really nice for the kids to have some one on one time with their dad.

Another reason to love the warmer weather. I love the one of the kids following each other along the fence line.

Looks like fun. Te tree picture is great. I had one who would fall in. One August when we were camping at Sofala, he fell in Turon River, which was close to freezing. I always took spare clothes for him.

We’re getting to the end of the summer break 😭. The kids have been staying up late, sleeping in, swimming and kayaking on the dam, reading and watching movies, and giving the LEGO a good run. I’ve been reading, sorting out things (it’s what I do in January), binge watching Netflix, and cooking. In the evenings I go for a walk and always arrive back to this view as the sun is setting. Also, I haven’t taken down the Christmas lights yet, and I probably won’t for a while longer because they are so pretty. Not ready for summer to end!

I even pulled everything out on the bathroom vanity and gave it a purge and deep clean. I have no idea how half the stuff got there 🤷‍♀️. For me January is a time to reset the house, de clutter and get sorted. Something about a new year perhaps? 🤔
Anyhow, here’s a pic of my freshly decobwebbed (totally a word) window which makes me happy- just don’t look too closely!

The mulberry tree has begun to fruit so I whipped up this mulberry yoghurt cake. It’s delicious and easy. The mulberries go all jammy and the cake is soft and not too sweet. Perfect comfort food with a hot drink when it feels like the world has gone mad.
