We have nine chickens at the moment. We first got some not long after we moved here, and two and a half years later, we have three of the originals. You have to be tough to make it as a chicken on our farm, but if you’ve got the guts to cope with three children who are liable to chase you and catch you from time to time, it’s a good life for a chicken.
Our chickens are let out during the day to scrabble around in the paddock. They wander freely around picking up insects and seeds as they go.
You would think that with all this freedom and good food, that we are rolling in the eggs… unfortunately though, we are not. Nine chickens and some days we are lucky and get two eggs.
I actually had to buy eggs the other day because I had some baking planned.
I think the chickens may need a little pep talk… or we may need some more chickens. Either way, the chickens are on notice to pick up their game!
Got any poultry tips??? Should I just accept that I have to buy eggs???
