Paper Christmas Baubles

Over the weekend we went to the Murrumbateman field days. Basically it is a couple of fields covered in tents selling all kinds of farm related stuff. Country Boy was in heaven checking out night vision scopes for his gun, and then new guns to go with the night vision scope.
As a dutiful wife I went along (it must be love!), but to tell the truth, I’m not really interested in electric fences, or post pulling out attachments for the tractor. Fortunately across from the hunting accessories stand was a paper craft stand. It was a little out of place, but I was grateful for a respite from the farm stuff. In the stand I saw that they had made all these handmade Christmas decorations. Naturally enough, I thought I would have a go at making some myself.
For each paper bauble you will need:
Some double sided card (I used scrap booking papers)
2 small split pins
10cm of thread

Cut 3 strips approximately 1.2 cm wide and 20-30 cm long (depending on how big you want the bauble to be).

Use a needle to poke small hole near the end of each strip, then bend it around and poke a hole in the other end to form a loop. Repeat with the remaining strips.

Remove the needle and then thread a split pin through the hole. Split the pin to hold the loops together.

Turn the bauble over, line up the 3 loops and push the needle through to make a small hole. Remove the needle then push the second split pin through and split it to hold the loops together.

Tie the string together to form a loop and then slip it under the split pin to form a hanger.

Country Boy came home with an electric fence, some miscellaneous tools, a box of baby fish for the dam, and a new hat. I came home with an idea for another Christmas craft. We both had a win!

So is it too early to start Christmas crafts, and would you rather look at crafts, or guns and sights???

Here is some links to easy Christmas crafts I made last year:
Button Christmas Trees
Mini Button Ornaments
Stained Glass Windows

I can see why these are popular every Christmas! They are effective and look great while being relatively easy to make. Great one for the kids.

They look great … but I'm still in denial that Christmas is approaching.

Those are very clever, I do love the one that looks like a watermelon and never too early! I'm not much into electric fences either, they used to scare the shite out of me as a kid!

They turned out nicely! I'd look at a bit of both, not that I'm a gun person but I'd be curious.

It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got It’s been a tough few weeks on the farm. We got through shearing without a hitch (thankfully 🙏) but we’ve had a run of the flu followed by Covid run through the family since then. The kids and I have tested positive (this is my second time getting it 🦠) though so far C has managed to avoid it. There has been a lot of lying on the couch feeling pretty ordinary. Han had to reschedule her driving test for a 4th time due to Covid, which is disappointing for her because she wants her freedom and for us because it would be so much more convenient if she could drive herself places. Just to add in to the mix, our hot water system has chosen now as a good time to die so we’re on cold showers until we’re all out of iso. This is not meant to be a whinging post but sometimes life just sucks a bit and it’s good to be real. Fortunately, the sight of the fire going with a stack of wood next to it cheers us up. Things will improve soon. Onwards we go…

We’ve been busy spending time with friends and family, harvesting the last of the summer produce, as well as a short escape to explore the big smoke. After the craziness of last term it was the break we all needed. It’s back to school for me tomorrow, and the kids are back on Wednesday. Shearing starts soon and so it’s all systems go over the next few weeks.

Autumn has arrived in the orchard and the apple tr Autumn has arrived in the orchard and the apple trees are full of fruit. Yesterday we filled five baskets of apples that had fallen off the trees. Then we had apple crumble for dessert last night. Between the orchard and the vegetable garden this time of year is always super busy as we deal with all the harvest. No so busy though, that I can’t grab the camera and snap a few pics.

Late summer evenings spent picking fruit in the or Late summer evenings spent picking fruit in the orchard are just the best. We take baskets down to gather the fruit and we inspect the trees and plan what we will do with it all. Tonight we gathered blackberries, nectarines and the first apples. The kids eat the fruit right off the trees - it tastes so much better than shop bought fruit. All the rain this year has not been good for all our plants; no mulberries and a lot less of some of the others. It reminds us of how much we depend on the weather and how much is out of our hands.
