The girls catch the bus to and from school each day. The bus appears to be the social event of the village (at least in the under 12 set), and the girls love it. We leave it to the girls to get themselves to the front gate to meet the bus. It’s about 300 meters so sometimes they ride their bikes, while other times they just walk. In the afternoons, they get themselves home too.
I love the way they lookout for each other and help each other when they have lots to carry. The walk home gives them a chance to chat about their plans with each other,
When we lived in the mountains, there were parents who drove their kids 300 meters to and from school each day. I love that our kids get to learn how to take responsibility for themselves, and that they have the freedom and space to do it here!
